The City of Cumberland’s legislative request regarding stricter electric bicycle regulations was not chosen as a priority by the Maryland Municipal League.  However, City Administrator Jeff Silka told the City Council at Tuesday’s meeting that their request has intrigued municipalities and other groups…

“A couple of the bicycle coalitions are coming on board for regulations.  They’re usually the ones that kind of balk at regulations, but I think everybody is seeing that the motorized bikes, the scooters, everything else is causing a problem for everyone.”

Police Chief Jim Pyles added that enforcing regulations in the City has led to arrests…

“We made two independent drug arrests.  Individual on a bicycle, stopped, had drugs on him, arrested.  Had another individual on a bicycle, stopped, had drugs on him, arrested.”
