Commission Presents Proposed Redistricting Map

Kathy Cornwell

Maryland’s redistricting commission has provided a concept map to the General Assembly, redrawing congressional lines in the state. Most of the change comes in the first district –currently held by the sole Republican in the Maryland federal delegation, and moves more Democrats into the district.  Commission member Ray Morriss and Senate President Bill Ferguson were the two no-votes on the commission’s proposal. Morriss said the testimony heard was 70% against making changes…

“It’s seven out of eight now, but they obviously wanted to get one more. The majority of people said they didn’t want to have redistricting done. I had hoped at that point that that might carry the day, but obviously it hasn’t.”
