Commissioner Against Solar Farm Location

Both Allegany County Commission President Dave Caporale and Commissioner Bill Atkinson spoke against the location of a solar farm along Cash Valley Road at Helmstetter’s Curve. The Public Service Commission took comment from over 20 people at a hearing at the LaVale Library. “We are not opposed to solar energy itself. We simply believe there are far better locations for projects of this scale. Former industrial sites, abandoned mine lands, rooftops and other disturbed properties should be prioritized before placing industrial scale solar facilities in some of the most photogenic and agricultural valuable landscapes our county has to offer.”
