Concern Raised with County D.R. Horton Agreement

The Allegany County Commissioners passed another agreement with D.R. Horton for the development of the old Allegany High School location, but not without questions from the public. County resident Gary Werkheisen worked in commercial real estate and expressed concern at the lack of a timeline and commitment within the contract from the large company…
“They’ve got a lot of projects on the table, and they’ve got limited resources as a company, and they’re going to take the ones that are most profitable first. Are we on that list? Are we at the top of that list?”
County Economic Development Director Jeff Barclay responded by saying the County hasn’t seen a development like this in decades…
“To get a housing developer to come in and build sixty-five homes, I don’t see that being an easy thing. We haven’t done that in sixty years. So, I’m just speaking for myself and for our team we think this is a great opportunity.”
