County Takes Steps to Change Road Monitoring Rules

Kathy Cornwell

Allegany County Commissioners voted to reverse an action made by the 2019 commissioner board, during Thursday’s public meeting, which prohibited the use of photo-monitoring devices on county, maintained roads.  After receiving many complaints from residents of Route 51 and Cash Valley Road both regarding traffic hazards, Attorney Lee Beaman says the repeal is step one, but there are several steps still ahead…

“Step two then is we have to enact enabling legislation that tells the state we’re permitting these cameras.  So that’ll be another three-meeting process.  Beyond that, then, once the commissioners take their action it’ll be on the Sheriff. I’m not sure what kind of timetable he would be looking at.”
