Dems Say Bill Would Cut Taxes for Working Americans

Kathy Cornwell

Senate Democrats have cosponsored a bill that would eliminate federal income taxes for Americans making under $46,000. The Working Americans Tax Cut Act also provides tax breaks incomes between $46- and $80,500. Sponsors say the legislation is fully paid for and avoids raising debt due to ensuring wealthy earners pay their share. Maryland Senator Chris Van Hollen is a co-sponsor of the bill…

“We believe that Americans who are earning just enough to get by to meet their basic living expenses should not have to pay a federal income tax. And those that are in that range should be able to keep more of their hard earned money. In other words, if your paycheck amounts to a living wage, you should be able to live off it and not have it taxed away.”
