Democrats Lay Out Utility Relief Act In Annapolis
Maryland state Democratic leadership held a press conference on Friday to introduce a package of bills to lower energy costs for residents. The Utility Relief Act would work to generate more energy and hold utility companies accountable. Governor Moore said rising bills reflect a broken system…
“Each and every one of us feels that pain – because we’re pissed. And because we know more needs to be done and we’re not just going to watch this happen. We know that our people are feeling it. And here’s what I know, the people of Maryland are smart and we don’t want you gas lighting us – lower our prices.”
One part of the relief will come from refunds of charges from the Empower program, according to Senate President Bill Ferguson…
“Empower is the bulk of it. There are other policy changes that will lead to additional savings like executive compensation and the membership cost for PJM. Some of the accountability things that we’re doing for the rate making process will lead to additional savings as well. We can’t put an exact dollar amount on that.”
