Downtown Snow Removal Questioned

Kathy Cornwell

Kathy Cornwell has spent over 40 years in local media, starting her career with an internship at WCBC in the late 80s. After graduating from from Frostburg State University, she worked extensively in cable television advertising and programming with Comcast. From 2002 to 2005, she was married to WCBC's Jim Robey. Kathy returned to the News Department at WCBC in 2023.

Callers to WCBC’s Dave Norman program this week were concerned about snow removal in the downtown area. After the weekend snowstorm, many sidewalks were still impassable and parking areas were not cleared. WCBC spoke with Larry Jackson, chair of the Downtown Development Commission who said their contractor, Perfect Reflections, handles the sidewalks while the City of Cumberland clears the streets. He apologized, saying it appears that some of the work done by the contractor was plowed back in by the City, but the two are learning how to deal with the new layout.
