Faith, Work and Community Builds Character

Inage Description: Catholic Heart Work Camp youth volunteers along Queen City Drive beautify the community.
Chris Myers

Catholic Heart Work Camp volunteers are wrapping up a week of service projects and faith engagements in Cumberland today. This year, 230 teenagers from as far away as Massachusetts and Illinois participated. Volunteers like Noel McDermott, Baron Isaacheredia and Abby Hannifin from New Jersey shared that their favorite projects involved assisting a elderly widow with home chores…

“It was really nice to be able to help her out. It also seemed like she was a little lonely so I felt like she really enjoyed having people to talk to while we were working.”

This is the second year Noel McDermott has returned to Cumberland and said the key to getting youth involved is through churches and schools…

“That’s where you’ll find the most concentration especially in churches where people are there and ready to help. Especially if it means they get to spend time with God and grow through their spirituality and just grow themselves as a person.”
