Feral Feeding An Issue of Public Safety

Discussion continues around the City of Cumberland’s policy against residents feeding feral cats. While the law has been in place for some time, the issue has bubbled up due to a rabid cat incident on West Side. Mayor Ray Morriss tells WCBC that the council sees enforcing the law around feeding ferals as a way to protect citizens…

“Because it draws in, in addition to the cats, it draws in the skunks and the raccoons and the foxes. And up here on hillside, people would probably start seeing coyotes again. So, that’s what we’re really trying to prevent. It’s about public safety.”
