Senate Bill 245 faced debate Thursday in Annapolis. The bill would effectively end what are known as 287-G agreements between local law enforcement agencies and immigrations enforcement. This particular bill is sponsored in part by Maryland Senate President Bill Ferguson who said he’s been in contact with his counterpart in Minnesota where two shootings involving ICE agents have occurred, and he wants to do what he can to prevent similar situations in Maryland…

“When there is not trust between law enforcement and the people that they serve, every single person suffers. The law enforcement agencies, and the populace itself. And so what we are seeing is the propagation of the worst form of distrust being exploited ever. What’s happening in Minnesota is horrific and God forbid it come to Maryland.”
