Former Newspaper Editor Passes

WCBC News has learned of the passing Thursday morning of Jan Alderton, former Managing Editor for the Cumberland Times News. Alderton had a career of 48 years at the newspaper where he started in 1967 as a proofreader. He also worked as a reporter. He took over as managing editor in 1999 and served as editorial page editor.   Former Downtown Manager Ed Mullaney remembers going to school and working with Alderton. Arrangements are incomplete at this time.

“He really supported his hometown. He was a hometown news reporter. And he did just an absolutely wonderful job of integrity, honesty, and getting to the point but with always a good spin on his community.”
