Fort Hill Warned of Pertussis Case

A letter from the Allegany County Health Department has been sent to parents and staff of Fort Hill High School warning of a case of pertussis, commonly known as whooping cough.  The letter indicates the individual was in a classroom or on a school bus where others may have had exposure to the virus. Pertussis is a very contagious bacterial infection spread through sneezing or coughing. Symptoms may present up to three weeks after infection. Staff or students of parents who believe they may have symptoms should contact their healthcare provider and the Fort Hill school nurse.
