Health Insurance Eats Up West Virginia Worker Income

Health insurance for families in West Virginia is increasing even for those covered through employer plans. Costs of premiums and deductibles for family coverage was more than 10% of a West Virginia worker’s income in 2024. Employers have usually covered about 20 to 30% of the cost of employee plans, but as overall costs increase, David Radley with the Commonwealth Fund says workers end up paying more each year…
“If employees keep paying more and more into their insurance plan, but their wages aren’t keeping up, then employees are paying a higher share of their wages to buy that insurance.”
