House Speaker Says Redistricting Is For Peoples’ Rights

With the Maryland House of Delegates passing a bill for redistricting, Maryland House Speaker Joseline Pena-Melnyk told MSNOW she has spoken with Senate President Bill Ferguson regarding the importance of it passing the Senate. The Speaker says she has pushed for this bill for the sake of peoples’ rights…

“As someone who is a woman, an immigrant person of color, there’s no way that I can look at myself in the mirror and not vote for this bill. I had to vote for it. I had to do it for my three, curly kids who are now being racially profiled. I had to do it for our civil rights that going backwards. I had to do it for healthcare, for education, we simply cannot stay silent. We’re losing our rights.”
