Housing Issues Addressed By Commission Candidates

Always a hot topic, a question about housing in Allegany County was put to Republican candidates for county commissioner at Wednesday’s forum.  Incumbent Bill Atkinson said in addition to the D.R. Horton project on West Side, other housing is in the works…

“We also have some other developers who are interested in developing other housing in coordination. We’ve been working with Northrup Grumman. They’re hiring another 3-500 over the next five years. Housing is one of things they have brought to us as a concern.”

Candidate Leona McTaggart had an out of the box idea for housing…

“I would work with lending institutions and developers to see if a lease-to-own option is a program that would be viable in this area. I personally went through this at one time and it was a good deal.”
