Industrial Blvd CDS Arrest

On Thursday, August 13th, 2026, an officer with the Cumberland Police Department observed a Kia passenger vehicle in the area of W. Industrial Blvd commit multiple traffic infractions, nearly causing a motor vehicle collision. The officer initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle and contacted the operator. During the stop, a police K-9 conducted a free-air sniff of the vehicle’s exterior, which alerted to the presence of CDS inside. During a subsequent search of the vehicle and the operator, amounts of suspected crack cocaine, fentanyl, and suboxone in quantities indicating distribution were located and seized. As a result, Melvin Gray Tyson Sr, 53, of Cumberland MD, was placed under arrest. He appeared before a District Court Commissioner for an Initial Appearance where he was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center. He is currently being held without bond.
