Maryland Black Bear Hunt Lottery Open

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources’ black bear hunt lottery is open through August 31. Entry is required to participate in the 2026 Maryland bear-hunting season from October 26–31 in Allegany, Frederick, Garrett and Washington counties. The bear hunt helps manage Maryland’s expanding bear population by reducing conflicts between humans and bears such as vehicle collisions and property damage. This year, 950 bear harvest permits will be issued through the primary lottery process with an additional 100 for the secondary lottery, for 1,050 available permits.
