Maryland Court Voids Digital Ad Tax

Maryland’s first-in-the-nation digital advertising tax has been voided by a Maryland court. The idea of the tax approved in 2021 was that multi-million companies like Apple, Google and Peacock TV should help fund Maryland’s Blueprint for education. The estimate of $250 million a year was never reached, but the state is now required to repay the $535 million that was allocated along with a 9% state interest rate for tax refunds.
