Overnight Crash under Investigation by Maryland State Police

On 01/16/2026 at approximately 0038 hours, the Maryland State Police Cumberland Barracks received a call, in reference to a motor vehicle collision on I-68 around the 41 mile marker, Cumberland, Allegany County, Maryland. Initial investigation revealed that a Kia Soul operated by a white female was traveling the wrong direction on I-68. At some point the Kia Soul collided with a Chevrolet Impala a Queen City Taxi cab being driven by a white male. The male and female were both transported to UPMC Western Maryland. The male sustained life-threatening injuries. Alcohol was believed to be a factor. I-68 was closed for several hours due to the investigation. The investigation is ongoing at this time.
