Plans Still Unclear for CSX Underpass

When City of Cumberland officials decided to close the pedestrian railroad underpass at Baltimore Street in February of 2025, it was to be on a temporary basis. Now the city is looking to alternatives to the underpass that was often used by vagrants as a latrine and had become a safety issue.  Mayor Ray Morriss said the city is getting a state grant to explore options to get to and from downtown instead of using the CSX crossing…

“Putting sort of a skywalk across that would be an ADA-Compliant skywalk that would start over by the Amtrak station and come across – we’re looking at that whole area over there on the Henderson Avenue, Park Avenue side to figure out where would be the best place to put it and make it ADA-Compliant.”
