Police Report on Law Enforcement Activity at AHS

At approximately 7:29 a.m., a threat was made via telephone to Allegany High School. Within minutes, law enforcement personnel were on scene and secured the school to ensure the safety of all students and staff.
The Cumberland Police Department’s CERT Team conducted a comprehensive sweep of the building, successfully clearing the school. Simultaneously, C3I investigators responded and immediately began assisting with the ongoing investigation.
During the course of the investigation, a group believed to be responsible for the threat was identified and determined to be in another State, indicating no active or imminent threat to the school.
Following the complete security clearance of Allegany High School, and with no immediate danger present, a controlled release of students was initiated from the rear of the building, identified as the safest and most secure location. Students were then escorted to Allegany College of Maryland in accordance with Allegany County Public Schools’ established emergency procedures.
The Cumberland Police Department extends its sincere appreciation to the administration, faculty, and staff of Allegany High School for their professionalism and cooperation throughout this incident.
