Senator Trying To Restore Monies To Garrett

With the sale of the privately-owned Savage River Inn to the state last year, along with it went a sizable portion of tax money for Garrett County. Senator Mike McKay has introduced Senate Bill 209 that would attempt to recoup some of that money for Maryland’s westernmost county. An 8% surcharge would be added to stays at the Inn, with 6% going to Garrett County for tourism. Garrett lost close to $100,000 in revenue when DNR took over the property.
