More Community Projects for Maryland’s Sixth District

Congresswoman April McClain Delaney (MD-06) has announced $11,750,000 in federal Community Project Funding to support seven critical projects across Maryland’s Sixth District. Combined with seven projects announced last November, she has now secured a total of $18.4 million in federal funding during her first term, benefiting all five counties she represents.
The new projects address urgent priorities including affordable housing, education, infrastructure modernization, and public safety. Amid increasing uncertainty surrounding federal funding, Rep. McClain Delaney is proud to have fought for these investments, which provide tangible support for families and help ensure Sixth District communities continue to grow and thrive. “As families face rising costs and economic uncertainty, it’s crucial that we make major and meaningful investments that make our communities stronger, safer, and support jobs and opportunity,” said Congresswoman McClain Delaney. “This is exactly what my Costs Down, Opportunity Up agenda is about — legislative action aimed at solving problems while helping working families get ahead. I’m proud to bring these dollars back to our district, and look forward to seeing the results firsthand.”
The Congresswoman also invites community organizations and government entities to submit applications by Monday, March 9, for projects to be considered for Congressional funding in Fiscal Year 2027. The application portal is available on the Congresswoman’s website.
The Congresswoman successfully advocated for the following local projects to receive funding as part of the Fiscal Year 2026 federal funding package:
$2,808,000 for Frostburg State University’s Planetarium
“The generous support from Congresswoman McClain Delaney for revitalizing the planetarium at Frostburg State University represents a transformative investment in STEM education and community enrichment in Western Maryland. This state-of-the-art facility will serve as a beacon of learning and discovery, inspiring students and residents alike to explore the wonders of the universe. The revitalized planetarium will not only enhance educational opportunities for a diversity of learners of all ages, but will also contribute to cultural and economic growth,” said Jason C Speights, Director of the Multimedia Learning Center, Frostburg State University.
$2,000,000 for the Town of Grantsville’s Sidewalk Project
“We are thrilled with Congresswoman April Delaney’s support of the Grantsville Connectivity Project. Her commitment to investing in infrastructure that enhances safety and accessibility is deeply appreciated. The Congresswoman recognizes the significance of the National Road—not just as a historic corridor, but as a vital, living connection for our community. This project will provide a safe and welcoming route to the heart of our Arts and Entertainment District, strengthening local businesses, tourism, and quality of life for residents and visitors alike,” said Emily Newtown-Edwards, Mayor of Grantsville.
$1,092,000 for the Oakland Water System Improvements Project
“We are incredibly grateful for Congresswoman McClain Delaney’s support of the Oakland Water System Improvements Project. This funding represents a vital investment in our community’s health, safety, and environmental resilience. Upgrading our aging water and sewer infrastructure will not only improve service reliability and water quality but also help prevent future system failures and environmental hazards. This project is a critical step toward ensuring a sustainable and secure future for Oakland residents. We are deeply honored that our needs have been heard and that the well-being of our community has been recognized as a matter of importance,” said Andrew Sauder, Mayor of Oakland.
