Dr. Dennis Dey of the UPMC Western Maryland Stroke Center joined WCBC to talk about warning signs of stroke. The traditional FAST acronym which stands for Face, Arms, Speech, Time has been updated to BE FAST for indicating a stroke…

“The B and the E stand for balance and eye problems. If the balance is suddenly off or if there is suddenly a visual problem, where either one eye can’t see or there I sudden double vision or you can’t see to one side, those could also be symptoms of a stroke.”

Dr. Dey encourages everyone to keep an eye on blood pressure…

“Make sure that you know your blood pressure, that you talk to your family doctor about it and you get it under control if it’s not controlled. That is probably the number one thing you can do for yourself.”
