Speaker Tours Baltimore ICE Facility

Members of Maryland’s state and federal delegation toured a Baltimore holding facility run by Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. The facility at one time was holding 226 people, but a judge ruled late last week that the facility can hold only 55 due to inhumane conditions reported. Maryland Senate President Bill Ferguson was on the tour and said the state is continuing to legislate against such facilities…

“These detention centers that will be in Hagerstown. If there is any way that we can prevent from operating here in the state of Maryland, we will do what we can to prevent it. What we know is that’s what’s happening in this building behind me and what theoretically could happen in any future facility will be cruelty, will be terror, and will be unlawful.”
