Specific Plants Help Monarch Migration

The area is in the peak months for monarch butterfly migration. People across Maryland can help them on their annual journey south by adding native plants in backyards and parks. The state has 1,300 butterfly gardens, but residents can plant additional green spaces with butterfly friendly plants. Wildlife Educator Michael Seymour says doing so can save on mowing at the same time…
“One is to get rid of as much of your lawn as possible. Lawns are really not useful to any native wildlife at all. So, the more lawn you can get rid of and plant with milkweeds, native milkweeds.”
