Most motorists won’t notice, but the Maryland gas tax will increase by six-tenths of a penny on July 1st.  The increase is determined through the Maryland Comptroller’s office, based on the Consumer Price Index and wholesale gasoline prices. The conflict between the US and Iran does not play into the increase, according to Robert Rehrmann with the state Board of Revenue Estimates. Gas prices have dropped slightly in the past week. AAA now shows the average cost per gallon in Allegany County is $4.33, down from $4.52 a week ago.
