State Superintendent Discusses Instructional Coaches

Jim Zamagias

State Superintendent of Schools Dr. Carey M. Wright is discussing a major hiring campaign for more than 60 teacher-coaches to support Maryland school systems. The recruitment effort follows approval of more than $14.2 million in state funds for instructional coaching in Maryland public schools. Dr. Wright told the state school board this week that the state department of education will be hiring the coaches to start this fall…

“Our newly hired coaches will provide weekly job-embedded support to teachers across Maryland and that’s the key – it’s job embedded and that’s what research has shown is the most effective way to grow our teachers. In fact anyone quite honestly, if they have a coach assigned to them.”
