Stolen Vehicle Recovered; Driver Arrested

A deputy with the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office was patrolling McMullen Highway and observed a vehicle that the deputy recalled had been reported stolen in Cumberland, Maryland. The deputy conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and arrested Jesse Luke Vanmeter (age 41) of Cumberland, MD. A quantity of suspected crack cocaine was recovered from Vanmeter, and the stolen vehicle was recovered.

Vanmeter was charged with the following offenses:
• Theft of a motor vehicle valued at at least $1,500 but less than $25,000.
• Possession of a controlled dangerous substance, to wit: suspected crack cocaine.

Vanmeter was transported to the Allegany County Detention Center pending his initial appearance before a District Court Commissioner.
