Students Becoming College Or Career Ready

Kathy Cornwell

Kathy Cornwell has spent over 40 years in local media, starting her career with an internship at WCBC in the late 1980s. After graduating from Frostburg State University, she worked extensively in cable television advertising and programming with Comcast. From 2002 to 2005, she was married to WCBC's Jim Robey. Kathy returned to the News Department at WCBC in 2023. She lives in Cumberland with her husband, retired radio station manager Rich Cornwell.

Even with the costs of attending college rising every year, most families want for their children to leave high school and continue with higher education. Recently Allegany County Schools Superintendent Dr. Michael Martirano was a guest on WCBC where he said he feels the county school system has worked to set student expectations as positive toward college…

“Now with the Blueprint that we have in place, there’s an expectation of being college ready, career ready. So I’m very hopeful that what we’re doing in the formulary years and as they’re in high school, that more kids will be wanting to go off to college.”
