Superintendent Always Errs To Safety

Just the possibility of something happening at Westernport Elementary yesterday similar to last May’s flood event produced immediate caution with the Allegany County School system on Wednesday. Heavy rains meant rising waters and the county made the decision to cancel classes. “Oh, 100%. I mean, my goodness, my entire career as a superintendent has always been in that never knowing what the weather forecasts are going to truly be, seek the information from the experts. Always, I know I’ve said it several times, err on the side of caution. We can always make a day of school up but if we lose a life or we have an injury we’ll never recover from that.”
