Tax Free Week Starts Sunday

Maryland Comptroller Brooke E. Lierman is reminding Marylanders that Shop Maryland Tax-Free Week begins this Sunday, August 9, giving families an opportunity to save money as they prepare for the new school year while supporting local retailers.  Through 11:59 p.m. Saturday, August 15, qualifying clothing and footwear priced at $100 or less per item are exempt from Maryland’s 6% sales tax. The first $40 of the purchase price of a backpack or bookbag is also exempt from sales tax. Eligible purchases made online at Maryland retailers during the tax-free period also qualify for the exemption.
