Tragic Motor Vehicle Accident Sunday

Three people died and two were seriously injured in a multi vehicle crash near the George’s Creek Road exit of Interstate 68 on Sunday. An Allegany County Sheriff’s Office was first on the scene rescuing one driver from a burning vehicle. Firefighters arrived and declared the crash a mass casualty incident bringing additional assets to the response. Three medevac helicopters, Trooper 3 and Trooper 5 from Maryland State Police Aviation Command and Conemaugh MedStar 1 we’re dispatched to the scene. One victim was flown by Trooper 5 to J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital trauma center in Morgantown, West Virginia.
Two victims were transported by ambulance with life-threatening injuries to UPMC Western Maryland, One of those victims died at the hospital, Two victims died on scene.
Ambulances from Allegany County Department of Emergency Services Frostburg and Lonaconing stations, Tri-Towns EMS along with fire rescue units from Frostburg, Shaft, Eastern Garrett and Midland volunteer fire departments work the incident.
The eastbound Lanes of Interstate 68 where closed for an extended period while the Maryland State Police Crash Reconstruction Team investigated.
