This summer, the Allegany County Library System invites readers of all ages to join in the fun with Summer with Our Library 2026: Unearth A Story. Reading logs will be available beginning June 9, and the program runs through August 8, with a community kickoff celebration on June 17. Community members of every age are invited to celebrate the joy of reading, learning, and exploration.

Participation is easy: pick up a reading log at any library branch or download one online. Readers can log books, audiobooks, or even bedtime stories and return completed logs to their library for a prize. Children will receive a free book with their first returned log each month, and teens and adults will receive one free tote bag. Every completed log is also entered into the Grand Prize Drawing, to be held on August 22, and participants may submit multiple logs to increase their chances of winning.

The library staff are excited to kick off Summer with Our Library on Wednesday, June 17 starting at 4:00 p.m. at Hoffman Park in Frostburg! This year’s summer theme, Unearth A Story, promises a season bursting with creativity, imagination, and fun for the whole family. Join in for an afternoon filled with “roaring” activities like face painting, friendship bracelets, storybook stroll, scavenger hunt, a dunk tank, and roaming dinosaurs, ready to stomp into your next picture. Mountain City Center for the Arts will perform a selection from their Peter Pan, Jr. show and Kona Ice will be there with free snow cones to help you cool off. There will also be raffles, fun giveaways, and on-the-spot library card sign-ups—just bring your photo ID and proof of address. It’s a perfect way to kick off a summer of reading and discovery with the Allegany County Library System!

Back by popular demand, the Story Time in the Park series returns this year, starting with an outdoor story time at the Constitution Park Amphitheater on Thursday, June 11 at 10:00 a.m. Hosted by ACLS Children’s Program Specialists, these engaging story times combine literacy and nature. Families are encouraged to bring blankets or chairs and enjoy books under the open sky. Story times will continue throughout the summer in parks and green spaces across Allegany County, including at the Dan’s Mountain Pythian Pavilion and at Creekside Park in Westernport.
