Will AES Reopen? Trump Wants It

President Trump is expected to announce $700 million to reopen 13 coal plants across the country, including the AES Warrior Run plant in Cumberland. The president will invoke the Defense Production Act to enable the plants to power back up as well as build a new export terminal in California to send coal out of the western US.  AES was shuttered in June of 2024 though plant owners have kept ownership of the plant and have experimented with different energy-generating materials.
