West Virginia Attorney General JB McCuskey has filed suit against Apple, alleging the company knowingly allowed its iCloud platform to be used for distributing and storing child sexual abuse material or C-SAM. Tech companies in the U.S. are to report C-SAM to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. In 2023, Apple made just 267 such reports. By contrast, Google filed 1.47 million reports. McCuskey sees West Virginia children at risk…

“We have thousands of kids who are at the greatest amount of risk to be exploited sexually. Because what the data tells us is kids that are in and out of foster systems, kids that have a troubled home life, kids that have parents who might be struggling with substance abuse disorder, these are the very kids that these predators prey on.”
