Bishop Walsh School hosted 230 campers from Catholic Heart Work Camp as they completed various community projects throughout the city of Cumberland this past week. During the event, WCBC News interviewed some of the volunteers like Lawrence Fandela from New Jersey, who was working on beautifying Queen City Drive, shared why he volunteered…

“Great friends and a great youth minister at St Lawrence in Chester and as I’ve gotten closer to them during this year they’ve kind of pushed me to come here and it’s kind of just been a faith experience to grow closer in faith and strengthen charity and humility.”

Baron Isaacheredia, also from New Jersey, spoke about his moving experience helping a local elderly widow…

“It was really like nice and moving for me personally because I feel like she had a lot of nice words to say and pass on and you can kind of see like she’d been through a lot. She was a widow, she lost her son recently, her cat had died so she definitely been through it but, being able to like talk to her and see her open up. It was a really beautiful experience.”
