Cumberland Man Arrested After Fight in South End

August 9th, 2019 by WCBC Radio

On August 8, 2019 Officers from the Cumberland City Police Department responded to 201 South Street for a report of a large fight in progress.  Upon the officers arrival they made contact with several residents inside 201 South Street.  Officers contacted Jeremy Skidmore who was breathing heavy, sweating, shaking and appeared to be nervous.  Skidmore informed the officers that there were several people out back fighting but he had no idea who they were.  As officers were questioning Skidmore about any possible suspects or victims being inside the residence he told officers there were.  Officers instructed Skidmore to have all those involved in the altercation to step outside so they could further their investigation.  Skidmore walked back inside the residence and shut to the door on the officers.  As officers waited for several minutes no one came back out of the residence.  Officers then entered the residence to check on the well being of all those involved and were greeted at the front door by Skidmore.  Skidmore became enraged at the officers and began to curse at the officers.  As officers tried to obtain where the suspects in the altercation were located, Skidmore clenched his fist, assumed an aggressive stance and began to approach the officers.  Officers told Skidmore at that time that he was under arrest.  Skidmore began to resist the officer’s arrest and had to be taken to the ground.  Skidmore was eventually taken into custody and transported from the area to the Cumberland City Police Department.  Once Skidmore was taken from the area, officers were able to interview witnesses to the assault.  Officers learned that while they were dealing with Skidmore several suspects fled out the back of the residence.  Officers learned that during the altercation a knife was obtained by a suspect and damage was done to vehicle parked in front of the residence.  Skidmore was processed, served and taken before the District Court Commissioner.  Skidmore was later released on his own personal recognizance.
