Autocross Events Approved at Airport

After a year’s hiatus, the Potomac Highlands Airport Authority voted unanimously last month to approve National Road Autosport’s request to hold autocross events at the Greater Cumberland Regional Airport in August, September and October. The final hurdle centered on receiving approval for non-aviation events from the Federal Aviation Administration- and that has been granted. The authority voted in June of last year to deny access to the airport’s operational grounds for autocross racing in 2014 and said that the reasoning behind its decision was because it could affect FAA funding. A small work group which included Authority Chair Dr. Greg Wolfe and Dave Williams contributed in creating and revising a set of official FAA forms, technical data and drawings to gain the approval.
