January 23rd, 2017 by WCBC Radio

The Maryland House of Delegates Republican Caucus has selected several new leaders for the ongoing 2017 General Assembly Session. Delegate Jason C. Buckel (R – Allegany) has been chosen to serve as the Chief Deputy Whip within the Republican Caucus. This senior leadership position involves helping to manage Caucus operations, assist with legislative development, messaging, and floor debate, and organizing and supervising a team of 6 Deputy Whips who serve the Republican Caucus on various committees. “Delegate Buckel is a sharp and motivated legislator and a great advocate for the minority party. He will be an exciting addition to our team” said Delegate Kathy Szeliga (R – Baltimore Co/Harford), Minority Whip.

“I am very honored and humbled to have been asked by my colleagues to serve in leadership of the House Republican Caucus in Annapolis. I’ve worked very hard during my freshman term as a legislator to partner with Governor Hogan and with other leaders of both parties to try to make Maryland a better place to live and work. Serving in senior leadership in the House Republican Caucus will hopefully provide me an even better platform from which to advocate for the interests of Western Maryland,” said Delegate Buckel. With the appointment, Delegate Buckel is now the highest ranking freshman member of either party’s leadership structure serving in the House of Delegates.
