CareFirst Employees to Perform Community Service Projects Throughout Cumberland on Oct. 2

About 200 employees of CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield (CareFirst) will participate in community service and neighborhood improvements projects at four different locations throughout Cumberland on Wednesday, Oct. 2.


The volunteer initiative is part of CareFirst’s inaugural Day of Equity and Action to reinforce the commitment one of the region’s largest employers is making to inclusion, equity and the understanding of others during National Diversity Awareness Month (October).


Media members are invited to interview CareFirst employees and capture video and photos during community service activities Oct. 2. Among those service activities, employees will:

  • Assemble as many as 800 care packages that County United Way of Cumberland will distribute to families that need diapers and other materials for their babies;
  • Clean up and landscape a portion of Virginia Ave. in Cumberland between E. Oldtown Rd. and W. Industrial Blvd.;
  • Prepare materials for crafts projects and clean and organize rooms at the YMCA-Gilchrist Center; and,
  • Complete painting projects at the Salvation Army.


WHAT: Company-wide effort to serve the Cumberland community during CareFirst’s Day of Equity and Action.


WHO: CareFirst employees and members of the company’s leadership will be available for on-camera interviews. CareFirst Media Relations staff will coordinate.


WHEN:  Wednesday, Oct. 2, 1:30-4 p.m.

  • Virginia Ave., between E. Oldtown Rd. and W. Industrial Blvd., Cumberland, Md.
