City Man Held After Drug Arrest

On Saturday, the Cumberland Police arrested Shawn Lee Hamlette, 40 years old of Cumberland, MD. Police were called to the area of Valley and Center St for a report of a subject attempting to break into vehicles.

Upon arrival officers located Hamlette who matched the description. While speaking with Hamlette, the officer observed Hamlette to be acting in a suspicious manner and making furtive movements. The officer also noticed a plastic baggie hanging out of Hamlette’s pocket.

It was found that Hamlette was in possession of several different types of prescription pills, along with other Controlled Dangerous Substances. Based on the amount of pills and statements made by Hamlette, it was determined that he possessed the pills with the intention of selling them. Hamlette was also pushing a shopping cart, belonging to a local business. The cart contained possibly stolen items.

Hamlette was placed under arrest for the CDS charges and the theft of the shopping cart. The investigation is ongoing regarding the possible stolen property. He was processed and taken before the District Court Commissioner. He is currently being held at the Allegany County Detention Center without bond.
