On November 24, 2016 at approximately 3:30 AM a Cumberland Police Officer conducted a traffic stop on Centre Street in Cumberland.  The vehicle was swerving back and forth in the roadway.  The Officer contacted the occupants of the vehicle and determined one of the subjects in the vehicle, Michael Anthony Deetz, was currently wanted on a criminal warrant for Failure to Appear in Court.  Deetz was placed under arrest and was transported to the Cumberland Police Department.  He was processed and taken to the District Court Commissioner’s Office where he was released pending trial in Allegany County District Court.

Assault Arrest

On November 25, 2016 at approximately 2:45 AM Cumberland Police Officers responded to a report of a female screaming in an apartment on Gay Street.  Upon their arrival they could hear a female screaming from inside the residence.  They knocked on the door and identified themselves as Police Officers.  At that time the screaming stopped inside the apartment and no one would answer the door.  The Officers again identified themselves and stated if no one would answer the door they would physically open the door to make sure all parties were safe.  Still no one answered the door so the Officers physically entered the apartment.  Upon entry they observed a male and a female walking down the steps.  They immediately observed bruising and red marks on the right side the female’s neck that was in the shape of a handprint.  The female stated the male, Ryan Brooks, came to her apartment tonight and began arguing with her.  She stated he began hitting her and then choked her.  She stated she was in fear of her life.  She stated she was screaming to get someone else’s attention, hoping they would call the Police.  She stated when the Officers knocked on the door Brooks forced her into the bathroom and held his hand over her mouth, preventing her from leaving or speaking.  Brooks was then placed under arrest and transported to the Cumberland Police Department for processing.  He was then taken to the Allegany County District Court Commissioner where he was released on his own recognizance.
