Drop in Enrollment May Mean Drop in Funding

Looking at more than a hundred fewer students enrolled this school year over last- the Allegany County Board of Education could see approximately $1.6 million less in funding in fiscal year 2019. Student enrollment numbers at the end of September showed 120 fewer students in the public school system- not counting pre-K which is not funded by the state.  With funding formula’s on the state and county level tied to student population- Finance Director Larry Mckenzie told the school board Tuesday that it potentially means a significant fiscal hit next year…
