Mayor & City Council Reach General Consensus On FY 2020 Budget

April 17th, 2019 by WCBC Radio

The Cumberland Mayor and City Council has reached a general consensus on the FY 2020 budget- and it while it holds the line on taxes- there are proposed rate hikes for water and trash services.  The city council held a one hour work session on the budget Tuesday afternoon- with Comptroller Ken Tressler reporting that the overall fiscal picture for the city had improved significantly in recent years- perhaps best reflected by a $2.6 million budget surplus. Just a few years ago the city had a deficit of $1.9 million. The rate increases proposed are to help offset a 33% increase contained in the new contract with Burgmeier Hauling for trash collection; and to help balance the water fund.  Tressler proposed a 37% increase for trash and a 5% increase for water are the proposals on the table…

Maybe it is time to look at “Ken” & “Jeff”, they seem good continually raising rates, fees, taxes to the Citizens of Cumberland. We, the Citizens CANNOT keep paying more & more. The Utility cost have increased numerous times, for quite some time. Do you guys think the Citizens are stupid & don’t remember? Property Taxes, nearly a 10% increase and now this. Come On!!!

The water and sewer and trash are already high! This on top of the property tax increase is too much! This is not Montgomery County.
