Police Make Arrests After Altercation on Spring Street

On Thursday, March 12, 2020, Cumberland Police officers were dispatched to the area of Spring Street for an argument in the street.  When officer arrived in the area, they were directed by witnesses to the area of the problem.  While speaking with the witness, a vehicle being operated by Brittney Clark, age 32, of Cumberland, Maryland, passed the officers vehicle.  Witness identified her as being involved in an assault related to the verbal disturbance. Officers attempted to stop Brittney Clark who continued passed them, and came to a stopped in the intersection of Spring Street and Elm Street.

As officers were contacting Brittney Clark they observed a physical altercation occur between Audra Clark, age 54, Jakeenan Jennings, age 30, both of Cumberland, and another victim.  Officers quickly placed Jennings under arrest, and also attempted to place Audra under arrest.  Brittney Clark then intervened in the arrest of Audra Clark after being ordered multiple times to stop and back up from officers. Brittney refused to comply and shoved one of the officer’s hands away. Officers then attempted to take Brittney into custody.  While trying to take her into custody, she struck officers multiple times while resisting their arrest.  After a struggle with officers, Brittney was taken into custody. There were no injuries to officers as a result of the incident.

Due to the incident, Jakeenan Jennings and Audra Clark were arrest and issued Criminal Citations for disorderly conduct and released to await trial in District Court.  Brittney Clark was charged with second degree assault, resisting arrest, obstructing and hindering, disorderly conduct, and affray.  She was later taken to District Court for her Initial Appearance and released on her own recognizance.
