Western Maryland Delegation, Commissioners Want Regional Reopening

May 6th, 2020 by WCBC Radio

Yesterday, the Western Maryland Delegation and the Boards of County Commissioners for Allegany, Garrett and Washington Counties sent a letter to Governor Larry Hogan urging him to adopt a regional approach to reopening Maryland.

"As you work to reopen Maryland, we encourage you to consider a regional approach, as infection and hospitalization rates differ greatly in the various areas of the State. As you are aware, Washington County separates the States of West Virginia and Pennsylvania by only 12 miles, and Allegany and Garrett Counties are in closer proximity to those State than they are to the metropolitan areas of Baltimore and Washington DC," the letter states.

It seems everyone clamors to reopen our local area as if Covid-19 is completely gone.
The very next item lists 14 new cases as of today Wednesday, 5/6/2020.

We were told that we had to close to “flatten the curve” and give hospitals time to prepare. We have achieved that. It’s time to reopen, we can’t stay closed until there is a vaccine

The GOP is a death cult. Next time they cry ‘pro-life’ remember they want to kill seniors to ‘get the economy’ going. At least they are balancing the budget – oh wait, never mind . . .

There still is no widespread testing available. Right now you only can get tested if you show symptoms and have a Doctors order. Allegany County still hasn’t reached it’s peak and numbers are climbing rather quickly now. All the States that re-open now guarantee us a second wave of infections.

As hunters around here will understand, this reopening can be called “culling the herd”. The problem with this is, the herd in this instance is citizens, not deer. And citizens can’t be processed and used for food…..wait a minute…anyone remember that old sci-fi movie “Soylent Green”? This image is what I think of lately during this crisis. To sum up:
IT’S TOO EARLY TO OPEN COMPLETELY UP!

I see this as an experiment that needs to happen.

If it goes smoothly we all win. If it doesn’t we all pay.

No matter which way it goes, it will set the tone for the discussion as we move forward.

Then there’s the question of whether people will come out and shop.

Let’s hope for the best, this is all of our families, friends, and neighbors we are talking about here.

      > Gee thanks Ken for offering to sacrifice other people’s lives! How generous of you!Maybe we should start with your Mom? I mean. I guess losing your Mom is worth someone being able to get a manicure, right?
