Wing-Off Relocation to Fairgrounds

February 14th, 2019 by WCBC Radio

The Tri-State Wing-Off is re-locating for a second time with the hopes being that the Allegany County Fairgrounds can become the permanent home for the popular Western Maryland Jaycees fundraiser. There is one issue that still needs to be resolved- and that centers on the music festival aspect of the event.  The “Thomas Cumberland Tri-State Wing-Off and Music Festival”  is scheduled to take place just a few weeks after the annual DelFest concerts-  and the contract between DelFest and the county includes a non-compete clause. That clause  specifies what types of concerts and festivals can be held at the Fairgrounds (where DelFest is held around Memorial Day each year) and when they can and cannot take place.  Event Coordinator Matt Miller tells WCBC News that talks are ongoing with DelFest organizers about any potential conflicts involving the musical acts…

The clause specifies what types of concerts and festivals can be held? Does any event, anytime of the year, have to get permission from the Delfest folks in order to use the Fairgrounds?
It seems that clause gives almost complete control of the Fairgrounds to Delfest. I love Delfest, and the wonderful things it does for Allegany County, but a clause that broad seems unreasonable.

It might be reasonable to assume that DelFest would not want any competition prior to their offering but to hold up another entity for something occurring AFTER their week-end seems more than a little unreasonable. DelFest is holding the fairgrounds hostage.

It’s their way or they take their marbles and leave.

This has been Dellagany County for a decade. While taxpayers are not even permitted to hear the reasons for major county personnel actions, DelFest dictates who is fired or retained. They have called the shots in at least the ABC and Tourism departments. What the festival does for the county is attract more folks much like we already have many of here and whose antics can be read about daily on this webpage.
