Maryland’s House Economic Matters Committee heard testimony from the state’s Department of Aging on House Bill 239, known as the Starter and Silver Homes Act which would limit local zoning authority to increase housing density and allow for more single-family and townhome construction.  Carmel Ro, Secretary of Aging, told Delegates state demographics are trending to a need for smaller homes…

“Falling birthrates, less immigration, older adults becoming a larger and larger portion of the population – policy actions that increase the supply of attainable housing options including smaller homes are essential to insuring that Marylanders of all generations can choose Maryland as their forever home.”
